We’ve known from the beginning that South Sudan is a hard place to work. That’s why we decided to work there in the first place. Over the last year, fighting has erupted again throughout the country and over one million people have fled their homes as refugees. Inflation has soared to over 800 percent. The reality of the implications of this on our friends in South Sudan is devastating and we are grieving alongside our brothers and sisters.

But we remain committed to the hard places and committed to a God who wants to do mighty things in and through each of us. So, when confronted with challenges, we adapt.

We’ve added a new tool to accomplish our mission: savings-led microfinance. We believe this is the most effective approach for the current environment. This new strategy allows us to extend our reach beyond small business owners to serve entire communities.

Here’s how it works: Self-selected groups meet weekly to pool their savings. As their pool of savings grows, group members provide loans to each other. Members can use these loans to pay school fees, buy medicine for their children, or invest in their business. And, most importantly, our indigenous team will continue to provide ongoing training and spiritual discipleship.

Thus, while we are employing a new tool, our mission remains the same: to bring economic empowerment and the hope of Jesus Christ to the South Sudanese. Check out our new video to see how this new tool is already transforming lives in South Sudan.

In addition, as more South Sudanese are forced to flee their homes, we are expanding to Uganda in 2017 so we can continue to serve them in the refugee camps. Again, we adapt.

Will you prayerfully consider partnering with us so that we can continue to adapt and expand our reach to more South Sudanese in 2017?  If you give by December 31, your impact will be multiplied by a $30,000 challenge grant!
